Tree Sculptures (2018-2020)

The tree sculptures I create are inspired by everything around me. The beauty of nature, my childhood, my peers, and my culture. Trees come in different textures, sizes and forms, which has inspire me to see how everything feels. A memory I always think about was when I went to Iloilo, Philippines in the year 2008 to visit my family. My family and the community all live up the hill surrounded by trees and forest life. I remember there was a gigantic tree with a path by it. Every step I took, I felt like I was going to see the top of the tree eventually.

When I create a tree sculpture, I feel a sense of calmness. A tree stays still and does not move from its spot, only moves when it is forced or when it grows. During the process of my work, I am able to think and mediate, freeing myself from any strong emotion trying to take over. This has help me come up with ideas for my art, whether it is new or improving my work.
